The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is probably the world's most famous colliery band with an international reputation for excellence on both the concert and contest stage. It was formed in 1917, as a leisure activity for the workers at the colliery, by members of the disbanded Cudworth Colliery Band.
Since then it has featured in film, TV and radio and the band is justifiably proud of its history and achievements. The band also starred in and provided the soundtrack for the 1996 British hit film ‘Brassed Off’ which also featured Pete Postlethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor.
